Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was officially released on January 30, 2025, for PC, continuing the narrative from its predecessors. The game features a compelling storyline, expanding the Spider-Man universe by introducing new enemies such as Venom and Kraven the Hunter. During the fight for his life, Mac Gargan was able to land a blow on Kraven with his tail, which should’ve implemented his infamous poison. But, Kraven always prepares for his hunts and has already worked on an antidote. Kraven kills Scorpion right then and there, ending the entire fight fairly quickly.
Arriving on May 6, otherwise known as Free Comic Book Day, is a prequel story to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. This slice of adventure is set to pit both Peter and Miles against a “new Super Villain whose powers they [don]t understand.” That villain being The Hood. Not only that, but during open-world gameplay, players will be able to freely swap between Peter Parker and Miles Morales at the touch of a button, akin to GTA 5’s character-swapping feature. After Peter and Harry synthesize an antidote for Connors, Peter locates him with Miles’ help and eventually defeats and cures him. Upon seeing Peter wearing the exosuit, Connors reveals that it is actually an alien lifeform called a symbiote, which Oscorp obtained years prior from a meteorite, and warns Peter to destroy it.

The one universal truth among gamers is that all lamented the Mary Jane Watson portions of 2018’s game. Plodding in execution and pace, they served only to show how mundane a Spider-Man game could be without Spider-Man. Thankfully, the developers have taken note and, although they haven’t omitted alternative character sections, they have substantially improved them. Of course, it’s a stun gun — she’s no Lethal Protector — but the inclusion of some offensive mechanic makes MJ’s sections much more bearable to play, and dare I say, fun? There are other guest characters to helm as well, but for the sake of spoilers, let’s just stick to the fact that these portions of the game are massively improved in terms of gameplay and their contribution to the narrative. There’s also the prerequisite stealth options which — and this cannot be stressed enough — serve zero purpose for Spider-Man.
